Bovis Lend Lease
Building Education Revolution (BER) school projects
Throughout the first quarter of the 2010 calendar year CJ Duncan successfully secured eight projects (approx. $16 million contract value) associated with the Federal Government’s Building Education Revolution (BER) scheme. CJ Duncan secured each project via a competitive tender process administered by Bovis Lend Lease (Bovis). Bovis would go on to provide Design and Project Management input on each project, along with the Department of Education & Training (DET) and form CJ Duncan’s client on each project.
CJ Duncan have formed a mutually supportive and successful working relationship with Bovis throughout the 12 months these projects have been underway.
Across this suite of 8 projects CJ Duncan has worked closely with three Architects, three Multi-Disciplinary Engineering firms and two Geotechnical Engineers (not to mention dozens of specialist consultants, sub-contractors and suppliers).
Given the haste at which the Federal Government pushed to have the BER projects commenced, this situation often saw minimal amounts of design and documentation being delivered for each project. Realising that this lack of construction information may pose a problem, CJ Duncan’s project team worked collaboratively with the consultant teams to devise practical and efficient solutions to design & construction problems.
Vivas Lend Lease
‘Silk’ Display Apartment, Jacksons Landing
In 2008 Vivas Lend Lease commissioned CJ Duncan to build what may well be the most isolated and highly finished ‘temporary’ project in the company’s history. In order to take advantage of magnificent harbour views, Vivas Lend Lease selected an isolated sandstone escarpment in Pyrmont as the stunning location for its ‘Silk’ display apartment. Whilst picturesque, access to the site was limited to a set of external stairs and a small lift, making materials handling and site establishment very challenging. Regardless of these limitations CJ Duncan hastily delivered this highly finished project in order to meet Vivas Lend Lease’s ambitious launch date for ‘Silk’, a $150 million, 18 storey harbour-side apartment tower at Jacksons Landing, Pyrmont. CJ Duncan worked hard to deliver this project for a cost effective sum given the fact that this project, whilst being a highly finished example of a multi-million dollar apartment, would ultimately be dismantled and the site converted to a public park.
